Studs, plates, dwangs and lintels from your wall dimensions
Framing a wall is stud count (wall length ÷ stud spacing — 600 mm or 400 mm centres under NZS 3604, plus extra studs at openings and corners), top and bottom plates, rows of dwangs/nogs up the wall, and a lintel sized to each opening. Multiply that across every wall and it is a real take-off, not a guess.
Type the wall length, height, stud spacing and openings and Toolie counts studs, plates, dwangs and lintels, adds wastage and fixings, sets the timber grade and treatment, and prices it off a real NZ pricebook. It follows NZS 3604 light-timber-framing conventions — confirm final member sizes against the standard.
- Studs from wall length and spacing (600 or 400 mm centres), plus openings and corners
- Top and bottom plates and dwang/nog rows counted up the wall
- Lintels flagged per opening (points to the NZS 3604 table — read the figures off your copy)
- Timber grade, treatment, fixings and wastage added
- Priced off a real NZ pricebook — and it flows into the whole-job quote
It’s part of the quote, not a separate tool
In Toolie this isn’t a one-off calculator — it feeds the actual priced quote and the build programme. Describe the job or drop in a PDF plan and Toolie runs the take-off, applies NZ site intelligence and prices it off a real NZ pricebook.

Common questions
How do I count studs in a wall?
Divide the wall length by the stud spacing (600 or 400 mm centres under NZS 3604) and add studs for corners and each side of every opening. Toolie does this per wall from your dimensions.
Does it size lintels?
It points you to the right NZS 3604 lintel table for the opening and load — you read the member off your own copy of the standard. Toolie carries the lintel into the take-off and the quote.
Is it just a calculator?
No — in Toolie the framing take-off feeds the priced quote and the build programme, so you are not re-keying numbers into a spreadsheet.
